What this tool does
Paste HTML and get back Markdown — handy for pulling a page into a README, a CMS that only accepts Markdown, or notes you want to keep in a plain-text format. Headings, lists, links, code blocks, and GitHub Flavored Markdown extras like tables and strikethrough all convert.
What gets dropped
Inline styles, class names, and any markup with no Markdown equivalent (an <iframe>, a <script>, custom attributes) are dropped — Markdown has no syntax for them, so there's nowhere for them to go.
FAQ
Does this support GitHub Flavored Markdown (tables, strikethrough)?
Yes — an HTML <table> converts to a GFM pipe table, and <del>/<s> convert to ~~strikethrough~~.
What heading and list style does it use?
ATX headings (# Heading, not underlines) and - for bullet lists — the same style Markdown Table Generator produces.
Is my content uploaded anywhere?
No — everything happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
